What the numbers tell us

Parking-space earnings are not automatically tax free.

Costs and restrictions to consider

Depending on circumstances, UK property income rules and allowances may apply. The Rent a Room allowance does not cover every type of property income. Keep records and confirm current HMRC guidance.

Keep a record of the gross receipts

Suppose a platform transfers £160 after deducting £40 commission from £200 of parking bookings. The underlying gross receipts and separately charged costs can matter when assessing UK property income. A bank deposit alone may not reveal the full picture.

Which allowance applies?

Do not apply the Rent a Room threshold to a driveway. Review GOV.UK property income allowance guidance, including restrictions, before deciding if a return is required.
